Paleo Diet Recipes: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

On first impression you may be thinking that, like most diets, the Paleo diet is going to be too restricting/complicated and mealtimes could become an 'issue'. Not in the least! Do not even consider for a moment that Paleo diet meals and recipes are going to be boring, complicated or lack in variety. Paleo diet recipes result in wholesome flavoursome meals.

Protein plays a vital role in Paleo diet and meals should consist of approximately 60% to 70% percent of your daily food intake. The balance of course being fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds with additional oils used in preparation of the meals such as avocado oil, nut oils etc.

NO GRAIN OR DAIRY IS TO BE CONSUMED

Remember shop fresh, organic, natural and wild. To be totally Paleo, eat seasonal as well - this of course being carbon footprint friendly.

Lunch and dinner Paleo diet recipes and meals can be adjusted according to your own personal lifestyle and requirements. To start out take your usual recipes and merely substitute the 'cannot have' with a 'can have' - you will be amazed how quickly you adjust and how capable you are of making your own Paleo diet recipes.

Some ideas for your three main Paleo diet meals for the day:

Breakfast:

  1. 2 Poached eggs on a bed of lightly panned spinach
  2. Bowl of mixed berries with nuts and cashew cream
  3. A 2 egg omelette with filling of your choice eg - no dairy though
  4. Chicken liver and bacon with grilled tomato.
  5. Fruit smoothy of choice eg banana and nut; berries and fresh coconut blended with ice cubes.
  6. Steamed/grilled fish with grilled tomato and mushroom.
  7. Absolutely nothing wrong with having the leftovers from dinner the night before.

Lunch and Dinners

These can be adjusted according to your daily routine.

  1. Mushroom burger with salad
  2. Roast chicken, vegetables and salad
  3. Meat and vegetable kebab with broccoli and walnut salad
  4. Bolognaise - made with zucchini spaghetti
  5. Prawn, avocado and fresh asparagus salad
  6. Wholesome chunky soup.
  7. Steak, vegetable bake and salad.

Sauces/Dressings

Salads and vegetables can be enhanced with various sauces and dressings eg any easy to make dressing of the combination of honey, lemon juice, seasoning and fresh, finely chopped herbs of choice. Paleo tartar sauce made from Paleo mayonnaise can be added to seafood, be it fish, shellfish or crustacean. A basic Paleo diet recipe for mayo is as follows:

3 - 5 Garlic cloves peeled (large)

Approximately 2 cups of organic olive oil

2 room temperature, lightly beaten free range egg yolks,

juice of 1 organic lemon

small quantity of lukewarm waster

Crush garlic cloves into a paste and add to the lightly beaten egg yolks. Lightly beat with wooden spoon until the mixture turns pale yellow.

While blending the garlic and egg yolk very slowly (drop by drop) add 3 tablespoons of the olive.

Blend gently until the mixture is thick and creamy then add ½ to 1 tablespoon of water and 1 teaspoon of the lemon juice.

Continue stirring while adding the olive oil in a very fine stream. If the mixture becomes too thick once again add 1 teaspoon of water and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.

Continue like this until all the oil is used.

Always mix by stirring in one direction only.

Should the mixture split - put it over into a clean bowl and add a teaspoon of lukewarm water and mix continue like this until fixed.

Most important have fun inventing your very own Pale Diet recipes and meals.

Paleo Diet Meal Plan: Tips for a Successful Paleo Diet

,
Paleo Breakfast:

This article assumes that you are already familiar with the Paleo diet and now want to adopt it for yourself. The "Paleo diet" has an obscure sounding name and lots of seemingly bizarre rules: no bread or beans? Despite the list of dos and don'ts, the theory is the easy part, the doing it is the hard part.

Paleo Diet Meal Plan: Tips for a Successful Paleo Diet

Eat only what the earliest humans ate.

It's that simple. What isn't so simple is keeping your commitment. If you're like me, or most humans really, goal setting easy. How many New Year's Resolutions have you made? How many have you fulfilled? So before you jump into the Paleo diet only to abandon it a few days in, set yourself up for success.

Make a Paleo diet meal plan

My least favorite part about adopting a new healthy eating regiment is that invariably the cookbooks will list out recipes which require ingredients I don't have. Since you can't buy 1 tablespoon of paprica, I end up buying a whole bottle... and more than I need of countless other ingredients. Meal plans are tedious, boring, and rigid. "I'll just go with the flow," I tell myself. The problem is that going with the flow requires a mastery which I do not yet posses. I need a Paleo diet meal plan because if I don't have one, I'll end up eating unseasoned chicken breast and apples for every meal of every day. That is not sustainable.

You can make a plan yourself or find one online but you need a plan. A goal without a plan is only a fantasy. Map out what you'll eat for the next 1 - 4 weeks. You don't need an exact meal by meal "I have to eat this Tuesday for lunch" but you should have enough meals to get you through. You should also make sure you have enough breakfasts, enough lunches, enough dinners, and enough snacks. Never underestimate snacking. If you don't plan for snacks, you'll either ditch your Paleo diet meal plan immediately and opt for a non-Paleo snack or you'll be so hungry when meal time comes around that you don't stick to the Paleo diet meal plan. You don't want that. Include a variety of foods in case you're just not in the mood for something and make sure you, at least in the beginning, stick with what you know. If you can't prepare, or don't really like, the food you're eating, you won't stick to your Paleo diet meal plan.

Evolve: if humans did it, so can you.

Start with foods you know and like but don't stay there. Gradually introduce new foods into your Paleo diet meal plan over time. Your first week should be only foods you know and love. Your second week, try to eat something new once per day. After that, try to incorporate something new and unusual into every meal. A key component to the Paleo diet is variety. Hunter-Gatherers didn't have the luxury of a grocery store, or even a Paleo diet meal plan; they ate what was available. You need to intentionally branch out in the beginning because we have been conditioned to only eat certain types of food (cereal, bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast; a turkey sandwich for lunch, pasta or casserole for dinner).

Ultimately, a written meal plan and specific commitment are crucial for your success in converting to a Paleo diet. Hey, if humans could do it before the invention of indoor plumbing, I think you can handle it too.

Paleo Diet Food List - The Secret to the Healthy Life

,
Paleo Breakfast:

A paleo diet food list is the optimum diet which is based on the nutritional requirements established during the evolutionary path to the present form for the human animals - having the biological name of Homo sapiens. Paleo diet is also called the biologically appropriate diet. The modern dietary regimen is known as the Paleo diet food list abbreviated as Paleo diet or paleo diet which is also popularly referred to as the caveman diet, hunter gathered diet or Stone Age diet.

Paleo Diet Food List - The Secret to the Healthy Life

Paleo diet can be easily termed as the natural food which was being used by the ancient people during the Paleolithic era - an era of about two and a half million years duration that came to an end some ten thousand years ago. Paleo food of that era consisted of wild plants and wild animals which were consumed by the human beings of the said era. Paleolithic age ended with the development of modern agricultural techniques and concepts around ten thousand years ago. The concept of Paleo diet has become known during the 1970s and the credit goes to the gastroenterologist, Walter L.V. to popularize the concept. The theme behind the concept about feasibility of Paleolithic diet for human is that, the perfect diet for human health should be closely similar to the ancestral diet.

A Paleo diet food list should be composed of the above mentioned ingredients. Starting with the meat, which should be eaten as much as one can but the point to remember is that, the meat should be cooked simple without adding much of the fats because fats cause many diseases like blood pressure, cholesterol and also increase the chances of lethal heart attack by blocking the passage of blood circulation. By keeping this point in mind, meat is healthy for us whether we use it in the breakfast, lunch or dinner. Lean meat is the meat which is trimmed of visible fats and the lean meats list can be stretched to contain the lean beef, flank steak, extra-lean hamburger, lean veal, Chunk steak, London broil, Top sirloin steak and any other lean cut.

Lean poultry consists of chicken breast, turkey breast and game hen breast having white meat with skin removed out of it. Eggs at maximum six in a week of duck, goose and chicken (go for the enriched Omega 3 variety of chicken eggs). Other types of meat may consist of rabbit and goat meat. Game meat should consist of alligator, bear, bison or buffalo, kangaroo etc. Fish meat is also favorable to be used as diet. The next to meat in the Paleo diet food list, comes the number of fruits and the vegetables. Some people are of the view that fruits and vegetables increase the weight and make them fat.

In relation to the above, this is obviously the biggest misconception about the inclusion of fruits in the daily life. Fruits do not increase the weight at all, no matter how much you eat it as fruits and salad vegetables contains very low amounts of calories. For the ideal life and health, every meal should include a combination of meat, salad, vegetables, nuts, seeds and fruits like apples, pomegranates, grapes, apricots, figs and bananas in his diet. Oranges, lemon, pears, pineapples, watermelons and Papaya are among the famous fruits because these contain higher amount of water in it, hence provide extra energy to the consumer.

Regarding the other foodstuffs included in Paleo diet, in an event of actively losing weight, at maximum 4 ounces of nuts and seeds should be used. Walnuts are among the best because they contain the highest ratio of Omega 3 in it. Oils, beverages and Paleo sweets should also be used in moderate quantities and also keep in mind that Paleo diet food list does not contain in it all processed foods made out of dairy products, powdered milk, ice creams, cereal grains and legumes and should be avoided.

Summing up the ingredients, Paleo diet food list mainly consists of fish, fruit, vegetables, roots, nuts and grass-fed pasture raised meats but it does not include processed oils, refined sugar, salt, dairy products and legumes. So make yourself bound to use stated items and within no time you will feel a good change in your lives, definitely a positive change.

Intermittent Fasting For a Lean Hollywood Body!

,
Paleo Breakfast:

So you want to lose body fat right? Of course you do, most of us wouldn't mind dropping some of that unsightly muscle-masking blubber. Being lean is a top priority if a Hollywood Body is your goal - and I'm sure it is, because you're sitting there reading my site.

Intermittent Fasting For a Lean Hollywood Body!

Most of you are aware of the following, but let's reiterate:

"In order to lose weight, you must create a calorie deficit (burn more calories than you consume). This is a true statement.

The problem lies in the discipline or methods used to do so. Sure, you can count calories 7 days a week, eat every three hours, and drive yourself somewhat crazy. Or you can simplify the process and relax a bit, still knowing you're bound to drop fat. Sound good? Enter: INTERMITTENT FASTING.

A Simpler Approach To Effective Fat Loss

You may have heard of intermittent fasting (IF) because as of late, it's become a fairly popular weight loss technique and for good reason. Fitness expert Brad Pilon is probably the most innovative when it comes to the subject. Check out his blog for more info on the matter than you're likely to read all at once, but it will lay out the science and logistics behind IF to a far better degree than I could relate. He is the go-to guy for IF! His eBook is one of the best purchases I have ever made. It's not your typical eBook - this information could be what takes you to the next level of fitness!

Intermittent fasting is exactly what it sounds like: sporadic periods of no food. For our purposes, we are not talking about lengthy fasts either. I recommend going anywhere from 14-24 hours, and a maximum of 36 hours, but 36 is pushing the limits and not necessary. However, you can choose to do so without encountering the negative benefits. Anything beyond the 36 hour mark and you begin to risk the things you're probably worried that a 6 hour fast will create.

On that note, what about all the fitness sites that are telling us that we have to eat every 2-3 hours? Their claim is that by skipping meals or waiting too long between meals, your body will go into starvation mode and your metabolism will come to a screeching halt. This, my friends, is simply not true, and IF is not unhealthy. Far from it. The 6 small meals a day approach is currently very popular amongst the fitness community. But where did this all start? Is there actually a solid foundation backing this theory, or is it just word of mouth and then the general consensus assumes it to be true? Fitness Blackbook has a short post with some good points that question the veracity of this theory.

This isn't to say that it's a bad approach to weight loss. It can work, but remember, the bottom line is that whether you eat one meal or ten meals a day, if a calorie deficit is not created, you will not lose weight. Personally, I can put down food! No really, I can eat like a horse. So eating six meals a day could easily add up to a very large number in the calorie department. If your daily caloric goal is 1800, six meals a day would be 300 calories a meal. So this method requires a great deal of portion control and discipline. Sometimes, you just want to eat with somewhat reckless abandon, so to speak. IF makes this possible, while still creating a calorie deficit.

If Muscle Gain Is Your Goal, I Recommend The More Meals A Day Approach

If you need to pack on mass, and some of you do, getting doses of protein many times a day is an effective way to go. This is from personal experience as well as factual information. I will gain muscular size faster when I eat 5-6 times a day with protein at every feeding.

But if you're happy with your size and are aiming for fat loss, both methods will work, and I have truly experienced the quickest fat loss and lowest body fat levels when performing some sort of IF.

Methods Of Intermittent Fasting

Eat Stop Eat
Brad Pilon's tried and true method of fasting allows you to "Stop Dieting and Start Living." Depending on your goals, the main principle is to do 1 or 2 24-hour fasts per week. It may sound like Hell, but it's actually easy once your body adapts. Say you eat dinner at 7pm on Thursday - you would then fast until 7pm on Friday. Water, tea, and coffee (black) are allowed. After the fast is over, you resume your normal eating habits as if the fast never happened. You do not go to the McDonald's drive-through and order 10 things from the dollar menu, unless you want to ruin your hard work. Detoxification is an added bonus to this, but the main goal is creating a caloric deficit over time. Think about it. Hypothetically, say you normally eat 2000 calories a day, every day. That adds up to 14000 calories per week. If you fast 2 days, that would reduce your caloric total by 4000, which is over a pound of fat, and more weight on the scale (a pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories). So in a week, you've leaned down over a pound of fat by simply eating normally 5 days of the week, and fasting the other 2. No need to worry about creating a deficit every day, just maintain discipline for two days. Even one day of fasting using this approach will compound into good results over time.

Eating Window
Not the official name, but it makes sense to me. I used this approach last summer and got down to sub 5% body fat. It's my favorite way method of IF. Basically, you will eat between certain hours, and not eat during other hours. For me last year, I would eat my first meal at 1pm, so breakfast was 2 cups of black coffee and that's it. Coffee actually suppresses my appetite and obviously the caffeine helps in regards to having energy. So making it to 1pm was no sweat. In fact, I would perform a morning workout around 10am, fasted, and without food after for a few hours. And no, I did not lose muscle. I will touch up on this in a moment. I would eat meals between 1pm and around 11pm. That's 9 hours where eating is an option, and 14 where it's not. I did not monitor calories while on this style of eating, I simply ate healthy Paleo food until full, and ate again when hungry, inside the parameters of the diet. Honestly, I've never dropped body fat so quickly and easily as when using this method.

Working Out While Fasting?
So am I mentioned above, while on the 14 hour a day fast approach, I would incorporate a morning workout into the fast. Was I a slug in the gym? No - in fact, I had more energy than when fed, and had some of my best workouts while fasted. The body will use it's "fight or flight" internal tactic to signal the body to heighten the senses and become focused like a laser. It's crazy, but it really does happen. My strength in lifts increased, and my best CrossFit times were achieved when in a fasted state. One day I remember thinking, "Wow, if I am this pumped while fasted, imagine what some pre-workout carbs will do!" I ate a big bowl of oatmeal, went to the gym, and had an absolutely horrendous workout! My body was so used to working hard fasted, that it basically rejected the food as far as energy levels were concerned.

Will you lose muscle by not eating protein right after your workout? No. Again, my strength improved and I dropped body fat like no one's business. My measurements stayed around the same, save my waist, which trimmed down to 29", lower on some days. I had the V-Shaped torso to a greater degree than ever, and most of all I felt great! I want to tell you about these personal experiences so you can put your mind at ease when these concerns come about in your head. I worried the same things, but soon discovered the beauty of IF.

Drawbacks Of Intermittent Fasting
Honestly, I am yet to be displeased with anything about IF. I don't think it's the best way to go if you're after big muscle gains, but that's usually not of my concerns. If I do feel like adding some muscle, I will fall out of IF and use the "more meals a day" approach. But for fat loss, I think IF is the way to go, in terms of effectiveness and simplicity. Is it for you? I'm not sure. Try it out and see if it's something you can incorporate into your fitness goals. Chances are, it'll take some time getting used to, as all new things are, but after a couple weeks pass, your body should be primed and accept the concept of IF, whichever method of it you choose, with open arms.

Food Pyramid - Why This Doesn't Work Best For Fat Loss

,
Paleo Breakfast:

The food pyramid was first formulated in 1978 by the Danish and adopted in 1992 by the United States Department of Agriculture. 2005 saw a change to the food pyramid to MyPyramid. This new pyramid is very similar to the old one, stating that the majority of the food consumed should come from grains, breads, cereals, crackers, rice and pasta. It states that if you are going to be eating something that has fat in it e.g. milk, to go with fat-free. There is also no real line for oils and fats.

Food Pyramid - Why This Doesn't Work Best For Fat Loss

More and more nutritionists and personal trainers have started implementing something quite the opposite to that of the food pyramid for fat loss. More studies have also shown that the food pyramid lacks aspects that help with losing body fat.

Carbohydrates in the form of grains, cereals, pastas, rice and breads make up the biggest proportion of the food pyramid. These tend to be high glycemic and have high glycemic loads. When consumed, these foods cause a blood sugar spike in the body. The body has to then release insulin to help curb the blood sugar spike and bring it back down to normal levels. If the body's liver and glycogen stores are full, then the excess carbohydrates will be converted to fat and stored in the body's fat stores.

I would recommend eating starchy carbohydrates such as oats, sweet potatoes and pulses earlier in the day. The body's liver and muscle glycogen levels are lower in the morning. The body can handle starchy carbohydrates better in the morning too, due the body's improved insulin sensitivity. As the body goes on, meals should be made up of fruits, vegetables, meats, fish, poultry, nuts and seeds and healthy fats.

The majority of food should come from vegetables and low glycemic fruits such as blueberries etc. Fruits and vegetables are packed with micro-nutrients such as antioxidants and minerals. Fruit and vegetables give you very low calories for the amount you can eat. They tend to be high in fiber, which has a fulfilling effect on the body. The stomach has stretch receptors, which tell the brain when you are full up. This means that you can fill up on micro-nutrient dense foods. Match this with the likes of starchy carbohydrates, where you get a lot of calories per gram of food weight.

Meat, fish and poultry are limited in the MyPyramid. Protein based foods should be the next important food after fruit and vegetables. I have competed in two bodybuilding shows whereby I have reached sub 5% body fat levels. I consumed protein based foods at every meal and recommend these foods should be consumed with every meal. Protein based foods have a high thermic effect in the body, whereby the body has to work harder and use more stored energy to help digest these foods.

Fats and oils that are naturally occurring and added, have a very minimal amount of room in MyPyramid. Fats have been shown in many studies to help the body breakdown stored body fat into a source of energy that the body can use. Meat is high in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has been shown to help reduce body fat. Monounsaturated fat, which is in olive oil has also been shown to help the body release body fat and use it as energy. As part of both my bodybuilding nutrition plan, I ate a high amount of fat, about 60% of my daily calorie intake came from fat and I reached body fat levels as low of 3%.

When I suggest using this eating plan to my personal training clients, they seem a bit reluctant as they look at it and find it hard how they are going to be fulfilled by eat. By eating like this, you will automatically eat more fiber, which will make you more fulfilled.

I don't see this as a diet, more just a way of how we should be eating; as close to the ground as possible, eating from what nature can give us, and trying to eat like our Paleolithic ancestors. I tell my clients to try and avoid foods, which have been processed or made such as pastas, breads etc.

By reducing down starchy carbohydrate levels, fat intake should increase. This will give you a much more sustained level of energy release than carbohydrates. Charles Poliquin, one of the most successful strength and conditioning coaches to professional and Olympic athletes, recommends the meat and nuts breakfast. This allows the body to control blood sugar levels and gives you a sustained level of energy. The athletes he trains are some of the best in the world and if they have the energy to get through 30 hours + of training and sport, then the average desk jockey should easily get the energy from eating like this.

Not all clients implement this way of eating as it is quite a different way of eating. Even though they will add in aspects of it, the clients of mine, which completely implement this way of eating, are the ones which see massive results in body fat reduction. They also find they have more energy during the day and during their training sessions and just plain feel healthier.

The Paleo Diet Plan Food Lists

,
Paleo Breakfast:

Following the Paleo dishes are all about returning to the beginnings of our most well-known ancestors and also adhering to their diet. Back when cavemen walked planet earth, they were seekers and gatherers ingesting the freshest of fruits, vegetables, as well as meats. Effortlessly diets come strict recommendations on what you are able to and cannot eat. By following this list of foods set forth, you get optimal health as well as nutrition.

The Paleo Diet Plan Food Lists

Knowing that the Paleo meals are based on the food that the cavemen ate, you will need to steer clear of all food items that are manufactured or processed. In addition, there are specific meats which are on the Paleo diet "do not eat" listing because they are regarded as fatty. Many of these meats contain chicken wings, deli lean meats, pork chicken, salami, chicken skin color, turkey skin, pepperoni, bacon, greasy pork grinds, bologna, fatty lamb grinds, breakfast chicken, and junk.

Cavemen lived prior to age of agriculture. Therefore, they did not eat cereals or whole wheat. So these types of foods belong to the "do not really eat" list of your Paleo diet. The grains which claim to be "gluten-free" are certainly not recommended for the Paleo diet. Some other grains around the "do not eat" listing include, barley, corn, millet, oats, grain, rye, wheat, and wild hemp. Any food that are made out of these products can not be eaten also. These foods consist of amaranth, bread, buckwheat, muffins, cookies, callus chips, callus on the cob, corn starch, hammer toe syrup, donuts, level bread, muffins, pasta, pancakes, pita bread, pizza, quinoa, grain cakes, rice flour, rice spaghetti, rice pudding, explained oats, sheets, rye crackers, along with tortillas.

Many food are on Paleo diet "do not necessarily eat" list. Nevertheless there are also a lot of foods which can be eaten and also enjoyed. Whoever has experienced as well as stuck with the particular Paleo diet have discovered that there are a great variety of foods that they can try to eat. Although cavemen would not eat dairy, they did eat ova. You can enjoy a great omelet made with a pair of eggs which contains fresh develop like fresh mushrooms, peppers, tomato vegetables, and don't forget the onions. You can also appreciate snacks regarding fresh fruits along with vegetables such as berries, uncooked carrots, along with celery. You may also snack on guacamole. Even so, when you are snack on vegetables and fruits or savoring them as a side meal to your food, eat these people without many condiments or sauces on them. They're healthier by doing this. Plus, there are several meats you could eat. Seek out meats which come from pasture-raised and grass-fed animals. If that is not possible, find the leanest cuts associated with meat in order to fill your current appetite.

The best part of the Paleo dishes are that it will at some point slow your current digestive procedure. You will really feel fuller for periods of time. When you are actively taking part in the Paleo food lists diet regime, you should simply eat when you find yourself hungry. Don't be concerned if you miss the occasional meal. Your body will tell you when you are eager.

A Typical Paleo Diet Menu

,
Paleo Breakfast:

If you've recently become familiar with the paleo diet then you may be wondering what a typical fellow paleo dieter eats in a day. When you completely change all of your food selections, then you may at first have a hard time coming up with foods to eat.

A Typical Paleo Diet Menu

As you know, the paleo diet does not allow grains, processed vegetable oils, peanuts or processed foods. Grains are such a big part of the standard western diet that it may seem strange at first not to eat them. When you create a paleo diet menu plan, then you need to compose your meals of meats, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds.

It is really possible to eat an enormous variety of meals on the paleo diet, and several cookbooks have been written on the subject along with enormous amounts of material online. Here I'm gonna describe a typical paleo diet menu, something that is typical for me to eat in a day.

Breakfast (eggs and vegetables):
- 4 Omega-3 enriched eggs
- 150g Frozen broccoli
- 100g Frozen cauliflower
- 50g Frozen carrots
- 15g Coconut Oil
- Two teaspoons organic vegetable spice

Melt a stuffed teaspoon of coconut oil on a frying pan, add frozen vegetables and let them cook for a minute and thaw. Then add the eggs, and last the vegetable spice. Stir fry until ready.

Lunch (leftover chicken from previous night):
- 3 Chicken thighs
- Mashed sweet potatoes
- A salad with lettuce, bell peppers and cucumbers

Chicken thighs were baked in the oven until ready and crisp, sweet potatoes peeled and boiled until soft, then mixed with butter and mashed.

Afternoon snack:
- A handful of organic almonds
- An apple

Dinner (meat pizza, meatza):
- A pound of ground beef
- Two onions
- Three cloves of garlic
- Three carrots
- Salt
- Organic Pizza Sauce
- Cheese
- Oregano

Onions, carrots and garlic cut. They are mixed with ground beef and pizza sauce, put in a baking dish and salted. Then the dish is covered with the cheese and dried oregano added on top. Bake in an oven until ready and cheese has obtained a brown color.

This was a sample paleo diet menu, but the type of variety that you can find with the paleo diet is incredible. You may be wondering why I listed butter and cheese, since those foods weren't available in the paleolithic era. Most paleo dieters are fine with eating high-fat dairy such as butter and cheese since it adds great variety to the diet and has been proven to have health benefits. Eating salt in moderation is fine too.

Losing a Pound a Day With the Mono Diet - How to Eat Only One Type of Food to Lose Weight

,
Paleo Breakfast:

Losing a pound a day with the Mono Diet may seem difficult to many, but this article will tell you how. More importantly, we will tell you how to eat only one type of food to lose weight so make sure to read the entire article.

Losing a Pound a Day With the Mono Diet - How to Eat Only One Type of Food to Lose Weight

One of the classics when it comes to being healthy and slim is losing a pound a day with the Mono Diet. Most people cannot keep up with this strategy while in fact it is so easy to follow. It is not like those complicated programs wherein they will ask you to eat various foods with specific measurements leaving you puzzled. The reason that most people do not want to try this program is that they think that they would be eating a single kind of food every day for the rest of their lives. Losing a pound a day with the Mono Diet is eating a single kind of food every meal. It does not mean that you have to eat the same foodstuff in all three meals daily. Some people suggest that raw chow will make the best choice for this kind of weight-loss program because of its higher nutritional value.

As we all know, there are three groups of foods. There are foods that are high in carbohydrates, high in protein, and those with starches. Examples of those that have high protein are eggs, cheese, eggs, meat, and fish. On the other hand, those with high carbohydrates, which are healthy, are fruits and vegetables. Lastly, those with starches are potatoes, pasta, bread, and pasta. Below is a concrete example of this program:

1. For breakfast, you can eat an apple and two bananas to give you the needed energy to last for as much as 24 hours.

2. You can eat a half-roasted chicken without the skin. Roast is better than frying chicken to avoid fattening oils sticking to the chicken.

3. Three baked potatoes will suit your evening appetite. Frying potatoes is not a good choice so it should either be roasted or baked.

Caveman Nutrition: How Can We Eat Like This?

,
Paleo Breakfast:

John Williams, Ph.D., has degrees in archaeology and anthropology. His research and fieldwork has focused on the Paleolithic and Neolithic of the "Old World", which basically means the Stone Age of Europe, Africa and Asia. John has always had an interest in nutrition, which actually works quite well within prehistoric studies, because our past was one big food quest.

Caveman Nutrition: How Can We Eat Like This?

CB: Tell us more about your approach to nutrition, and more importantly, developing delicious healthy eating recipes.

JW:
You might ask, how in the world did an archaeologist get into creating healthy recipes? I've never been a stranger to the kitchen. My Mom never really enjoyed cooking, so she encouraged me to cook for myself from a very early age. In fact, in grade school, I would wake up at 6 AM so I could make an omelet for myself before school. OK, so maybe I was a strange kid, but I certainly learned to find my way around a kitchen.

Cooking skills have also come in very handy on excavations, where there are crews of 10-20 people needing nourishment from long days of heavy labor in the sun. We usually have chefs, but I'm always poking my nose around the kitchen, giving them recipes to make sure we have sufficient protein and a good fatty-acid profile.

My travels have also taught me a lot about international cuisine. I had an Indian roommate in Israel when I was doing my dissertation research, and he taught me a lot about Indian food, which I think is some of the best in the world. I've also been to various places around the Middle East and Europe, where I picked up quite a few cooking tips.

Over the past few years, I've been continually experimenting with making healthy recipes that taste great. Bodybuilders are some of the most knowledgeable people out there when it comes to nutrition, yet many of them will resort to eating tuna from a can and boiling chicken breasts. Not that there's anything wrong with an occasional quick snack, but there are certainly ways to make healthy meals both quick and delicious.

CB: What is your take on eating dairy? Are there any problems with consuming large amounts of dairy products?

JW:
My fridge is full of cottage cheese and yogurt. But I'm not a big fan of milk, as I've found that it makes me 'stuffy', for lack of a better word. If you want to know the gory details, I get some mucus buildup after drinking milk, which leads me to suspect I have a low-grade allergy to it. It's the same feeling I've had after eating takeout Chinese food loaded with MSG - not good. Interestingly, I can eat cottage cheese and yogurt all day without the stuffiness.

There's also the whole issue of dairy and insulin response. A few studies have shown that dairy products cause a disproportionately large insulin response, which some people believe could prevent fat breakdown.

But of course milk and dairy are an excellent source of casein, which is one of the best sources of protein out there. So in the end, it's entirely up to the individual. Personally, I won't be making all that many recipes with milk in them, because of the potential side effects.

CB: What is your take on the low-carbohydrate approach to fat loss? Do you have any low-carbohydrate case studies you would like to share? What are your top sources of carbohydrate that you recommend people eat?

JW:
Extremely low carb approaches like Atkins, and even all liquid protein and EFA diets like the Velocity Diet certainly can be effective in losing fat fast. But like I said earlier, a more balanced diet is certainly better in the long run. I think that avoiding foods like spinach or broccoli because of their few carbs would be a travesty.

CB: What are your top sources of protein?

JW:
I usually grill about 3 pounds of chicken breasts at a time for quick meals during the day, and cook a proper breakfast and dinner with eggs, lean beef, fish, and the occasional game meat (bison, venison, etc.)

CB: What are your top sources of fat?

JW:
Each morning I have a strong cup of Joe and a teaspoon of fish oil to clear the mental cobwebs with a caffeine-DHA combo. Not mixed together of course - I wouldn't want to ruin the taste of my Ethiopian Harrar! Then throughout the day, I'll have a couple of omega-3 eggs (Pilgrims Pride EggsPlus), some olive oil in various meals, and various nuts - particularly almonds and walnuts. I also take a couple of fish oil caps with every meal. This tends to balance everything out, providing a moderate amount of saturated fat, sufficient monounsaturated, and about a 2:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3's.

CB: Can you tell us the role of food in controlling "inflammation" (i.e. controlling arthritis)? What foods should be avoided? What foods should be consumed?

JW:
One of the easiest ways to combat inflammation is by drinking sufficient water. Particularly if you drink coffee or any caffeinated beverage, water is a must. The commonly accepted amount for active people is about a gallon a day.

Another major pro-inflammatory aspect of our diets is a high omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. If our cell membranes are full of omega-6's, then muscle soreness and damage will be much worse after weight training. But get those fats balanced (more omega-3's), and inflammation/soreness can be reduced, leading to reduced recovery time.

The American Heart Association 3 Day Diet

,
Paleo Breakfast:

The American Heart Association 3 Day Diet is a cleansing program that is designed to remove toxins from the body. At the same time, the diet supposedly helps participants lose up to ten pounds in just three days. Despite its name, the American Heart Association has no direct affiliation with this diet plan, and it should be noted that the plan is not generally considered a healthy eating plan.

The American Heart Association 3 Day Diet

The so-called "3 Day Diet" has been around since approximately 1985 and goes by several different names. However, lately it is the American Heart Association title that has garnered the most attention. The American Heart Association 3 Day Diet has a rather rigid menu to follow. The foods that are chosen are meant to boost up metabolism and burn fat quickly. They are also reported to rid the body of toxins, build muscle, and provide dieters with increased energy. Some of the main food choices selected are rather surprising, though, and can be rather high in sodium, fat, and sugar.

The idea of the American heart Association 3 Day Diet is to follow strict meal plans based on the theory that certain foods, eaten in appropriate combinations, will jump start a person's metabolic rate. The total number of calories to be eaten each day totals only around 1,000 to 1,200, and only three meals are permitted. There is no space in the diet for snacks, and the largest meal of the day seems to be dinner. A sample menu might possibly include crackers with cheese for breakfast, canned tuna on toast for lunch, and vanilla ice cream and cabbage for dinner. It also incorporates tea and coffee for a caffeine jolt meant to boost a person's metabolism.

In the end, the misleading American Heart Association 3 Day Diet is not beneficial for a person's heart or other major body systems. It is just one of the many "crash diets" or "fad diets" that aim to help people shed pounds fast. Still, it is a much safer option than weight loss drugs and other fad trends and the plan can be used by those who are desperate to shed a few pounds before a major event. However, the actual weight lost will likely be from water and will most likely not be the ten pound estimate given. Additionally, after the 3 day diet is over, weight gain may result as normal eating habits resume. The diet should not be continued for any longer than three days, though, due to health concerns.

Nutrisystem Sample Menu - A Typical Day's Worth of Food on This Diet

,
Paleo Breakfast:

I get a lot of emails asking me about the food offerings, taste, and variety of the Nutrisystem foods.  I understand this because when I was researching this diet, the food was what I was most interested in also.  After all, you're going to be eating this food at almost every meal (unless you go with the flex program) so it's important that you'll actually find it enjoyable or at least tolerable.  Because if you don't, it's just not going to be a positive experience that you'll want to repeat or stick with. So, in the following article, I'll list what would be a sample or typical menu for me so that you can see what a day might be like should you chose this diet.

Nutrisystem Sample Menu - A Typical Day's Worth of Food on This Diet

Decent Amounts Of Variety, Decent Taste: Before I get into the actual meals, I want to take a minute to assure you that the food really is not that bad.  Most of it is not only edible, but actually pretty good. And the choices are pretty plentiful on Nutrisystem. There are over 170 foods to chose from, and much of them are comfort foods, snacks and desserts.  You really do get to eat pizza, burgers, tacos, and cake on this plan.  And while this fare doesn't exactly taste like junk food, it's decent enough and you have to appreciate being able to eat these things because not all diets would allow this.

Sample Nutrisystem Breakfast I think that breakfast is really composed of the best that this diet has to offer.  There are so many decent choices here.  I love the blueberry muffins and scones. The pancakes are decent too.  I don't like oatmeal as a general rule, but the diet oatmeal tastes a lot like Quaker brand, and the cereal is a nice option to have, as this is technically a low carb diet.  I suppose the only option that I steer clear of for breakfast is the eggs, but I don't like non diet eggs either.

Nutrisystem Mid Morning Snack Offerings:  The premise of this diet consists of three meals, one snack, and dessert.  I like to have my snack mid morning, but you could have it at any time.  I know a lot of people who have it at around 3 o'clock when they begin to get hungry for dinner.  I like to have the pretzels or the chips here.  You can also have some of the dessert foods as your snack, and although I will do this sometimes, I often try and stick to the salt for my snack rather than the sweet.

Nutrisystem Lunch Sample Menu: If there is a weakness of the  diet, the lunch is it, in my opinion.  There are just too many soup options and I don't like soup.  I finally wised up and learned to just order more dinners with my package.  This doesn't cost anymore and the company allows you to hand pick your foods.  However, if I did have to chose from the lunch foods, I'd go with the cheese tortellini or the fudge bar. The chicken salad isn't too bad either.

Typical Nutrisystem Dinner: The offerings become much better here.  There's a lot to like.  I find the pizza to be pretty good (I like the flat bread variety.) The macaroni and cheese and lasagna are also good.  The tacos require a little dressing up, but they can be made to be tasty.  The mushroom risotto is addictive and I would eat this even if I were not on a diet.  The texture on this is wonderful and very creamy.

Nutrisystem Dessert Choices: This too is where the diet shines.  There is not one option that I don't like in this category, but I'd have to say that my favorites are the almond biscotti and the chocolate cake. If I had to pick my least favorite, it would probably be the strawberry short cake bar as this really isn't like your traditional dessert, but this one is still pretty tasty. I just would rather they have made it an actual cake or muffin rather than a bar.

You would have the same menu if you you went with the flex plan.  The foods offered aren't any different. What's different is that you're only eating the foods five days out of the week rather than every day.  You get any two days off on the flex plan so it's the cheapest option out there.

A Weekly Nutrisystem Menu Sample - 7 Examples of Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Meals

,
Paleo Breakfast:

I get a lot of emails from people who are asking for me to paint them a picture of what life on nutrisystem is like. I've written about a typical day on this diet. I've had a few people tell me that this isn't a big enough glimpse of the meals to give them a full idea of what they will be eating. So, in the following article, I'm going to expand on this idea and provide an example of a week's worth of breakfasts, lunches, dinners, snacks and desserts. I will also give you examples of the sides that you are asked to add onto each meal.

A Weekly Nutrisystem Menu Sample - 7 Examples of Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Meals

An Example Of A Week's Worth Of Nutrisystem Breakfasts: I often say that I think that the breakfasts, snacks, and desserts are my favorite part of this diets. Even though this is a lower carb diet, you are still allowed cereals, muffins, pancakes, and scones. For this example, I've tried to mix things up a bit so that there's a lot of variety. Here are seven typical breakfasts that I chose and the sides which would work well with them. They are: the banana nut muffin with milk; the egg frittata with cantaloupe; the blueberry pancakes with yogurt; the apple cinnamon oatmeal with apple slices; the apple strudel scone with cottage cheese; the cluster crunch cereal with skim milk; and the cinnamon roll with yogurt.

Now, this is only seven choices. There are more. But this does give you a good sampling of the types of products that you will eat. There are different flavors within each category. There are different flavors of oatmeal, cereals, scones, and muffins. What I've given are examples that I enjoy.

7 Days Worth Of Nutrisystem Lunches: People often expect to see a lot of soups here. And, there are some. But there are also pastas, hot dogs, bars, salads, and rice dishes. The examples that I've chosen are: the cheese tortellini and a small salad; the hot dog and celery sticks; the chicken and pasta in cacciatore sauce with carrot sticks; the chicken caesar salad with blueberries; the red beans and rice with red peppers; the minestrone soup with salad; the fettucine alfredo and cucumber slices; and finally, the chicken and noodles with watermelon.

A Weekly Sample Menu Of Nutrisystem Dinners: The dinners are a bit more substantial and they do offer a lot of variety. I tend to like the comfort food options, so if I were choosing for an entire week, I might chose: the Cajun chicken and sausage with fat and sugar free pudding; the lasagne and meat sauce with a salad; the pizza and strawberries; the beef steak with potatoes and cantaloupe; the bar b que pork wrap with celery sticks and fat free dressing; the macaroni cheese and beef with sliced tomatoes; and the mushroom risotto with sliced red peppers.

7 Tasty Snacks: You really can't go wrong with any of the snacks. But, here are seven of my favorites: the nachos; the pretzels; the herb snack mix; the cheese puffs; the bar b que chips; the coconut almond bar; and the chocolate rainbow desserts.

A Week's Worth Of Desserts: This isn't going to be very original, but the desserts are my favorite. I honestly can't think of one that I wouldn't eat, and I pretty much like them all. If I could only chose 7, I'd pick: the almond biscotti; the chocolate cake; the peppermint cookie patty; the nutrichocolates; the golden pound cake: the blueberry lemon dessert bar; and the mint chocolate crunch bar.

All of the meals are meant to be interchangeable. And, nutrisystem does allow for you to buy foods individually, by the week, and by the month. The monthly packages usually work out to be cheaper because you're buying in bulk and because they allow for you to use the most generous coupons with the monthly packages.

How to Lose Weight Fast With a Fat Loss Diet

,
Paleo Breakfast:

Many people give advice on the best ways to achieve fat loss, but there is no real mystery to it. If you combine regular workouts with a diet, fat loss is the result. The energy balance is the difference between calories consumed and calories expended. If you can expend calories through exercise, and reduce you daily intake a little with some mild to moderate dieting, you'll lose fat extremely effectively. You will accomplish your goals or losing weight quickly, get fitter, and be able to sustain the reduction of excess fat. This really is a simple and effective way to eliminate weight and assist you with keeping that fat off. Many people don't want to exercise but it really adds to your feeling of well being. Combine this with a healthy eating plan and you're all set for a fat free and healthy life.

How to Lose Weight Fast With a Fat Loss Diet

Out of all the diets touted as being the 'most effective', the low carb diet is still very popular. What is a low carb diet? It essentially means eating a diet that is high in protein and fresh fruit and vegetables, but minimising the consumption of high carb foods like pasta, bread, and rice. A low carb diet need not be a 'no carb' diet, which is blatantly unhealthy. I have found that for rapid weight loss, restrict your carb intake to around 80 grams of carbohydrate a day and the weight will drop off. The problem with going for a diet too low in carbs is that once you come off it, the weight will likely return. This is why I advocate a 'reduced carb' plan such as the Paleo diet.

The way to avoid such fluctuations in weight is to combine the healthy eating plan with a quality exercise routing, concentrating on some cardio work and some resistance training, with weights, kettlebells or body weight exercises. To start with, do enough to feel good and enjoy it, and build it up week by week. It is really essential to combine your exercise regime with safe, moderate dieting to ensure that you will be successful. You will likely want to continue with your exercise even after finishing your weight loss plan.

One of the best ways to continue with your weight loss plan and maintain a healthy weight is to continue your weight loss plan permanently. There are a few good tips on how to lose fat fast. Eating more protein, less carbs, and ensure that your diet has plenty of fiber rich food stuffs. The protein provides the greatest satiation of appetite (you feel less hungry after eating protein), and fiber rich foods with a slow energy release also reduce the hunger pangs that are experienced with many modern processed foods. You metabolism will speed up, especially if you do some resistance training, and your digestive health will improve.

Here are some of the easiest ways to cut down weight.

One way to lose fat quick is to exercise on an empty stomach before breakfast. A run or weights session a few time a week will provide great results.

By just strength training. A healthy nutrition regime, some cardio exercises and hydrating with plenty of water, you will see some rapid weight loss.

How to Increase your Strength.

Strength training will certainly help to increase you aerobic fitness, strengthen your bones and connecting tissues, build muscle and help improve flexibility. It also assists with quick fat loss.

Burn Fat

Your metabolic rate is increased when you do strength training, and combined with dieting you will get even more fat loss.

I hope this brief article has provided you with some information and inspiration yo help you with your fat loss plan. It's not that hard. Just a little dedication and commitment and you will look and feel great in no time.

Lose 10 Pounds in 1 Week - 8 Powerful, Proven Tips For Losing 10 Lbs in Just One Week!

,
Paleo Breakfast:

Need to lose some weight quickly for an important event? Maybe a wedding, party, or "beach" day? In this article I'll show you some proven tips to lose up to 10 pounds in about a week. It's not always easy to lose weight fast but, with the healthy tips below, you should be able to lose at least ten lbs in the next 7 days...

Lose 10 Pounds in 1 Week - 8 Powerful, Proven Tips For Losing 10 Lbs in Just One Week!

1. Get focused. Write down your goal (e.g. "Lose 10 pounds in 7 days through strict diet and smart exercise"), read it several times per day, and focus all your energy on that goal. This is a proven form of "mental programming " and without this crucial step you will not be successful!

2. Do a quick detox. Do a 1 or 2 day detox diet. A simple option is a raw juice fast, but of course this requires a juicer. Another good option is a 1-2 day raw foods diet where you eat nothing but raw vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. Either way be sure to drink lots of pure water and unsweetened herbal teas (up to a gallon per day for best results). By doing this you should lose a pound or two easily, cleanse your body, boost your energy levels, and get into the proper mindset for seriously fast weight loss results.

3. Start doing morning workouts. Every morning get up, put on some workout clothes, and go do a short 10-30 minute workout based around brisk cardiovascular/aerobic exercise. Speed walking or light jogging are ideal. This will help to jumpstart your metabolism and set you up mentally for the day ahead.

4. Eat a large protein-rich breakfast. Every day (except for your detox days) eat a large breakfast based around protein and good carbs (with some healthy fat for good measure). This will help to limit your appetite and make it easier to stick to a strict eating plan for the rest of the day.

5. Get on a paleo-style diet. The best diet to lose 10 pounds in one week is one based around natural, unprocessed foods that can be hunted or gathered in the wild. These foods, sometimes called "paleo" foods, mainly include: lean meats, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and raw fruits. Your body is designed to thrive on these healthy foods and you'll be able to drop pounds more quickly and easily on this diet.

6. Cut the sugars and starches. I know it's not easy, but for the entire week you must cut out all simple sugars and starches from your diet. Definitely no refined sugars. No fruit juices. No honey. No grains (including breads, pastas, cereals, etc.). No potatoes. No rice. This simple step will cut your calorie intake while stabilizing your blood sugar levels and insulin production, making it a lot easier to burn fat and lose pounds quickly!

7. Snack often. Eat a small protein-rich and/or fiber-rich snack about every 2-3 hours during the day. Also have a piece of fresh fruit or some raw veggies about 10-20 minutes before your "big" meals. Snacking is one of the best strategies for controlling your appetite and avoiding food cravings that might derail your healthy weight loss progress.

8. Do full-body circuit training every other day. The best workouts for burning fat and losing 10 pounds fast are ones based around full-body circuit training. Basically you combine sets of simple strength exercises (e.g. pushups, bodyweight squats, pull-ups, etc.) with short rounds of higher-intensity cardio training. These workouts should be kept short (under 30 minutes) and intense in order to force your body to burn calories, drop extra fat quickly, build and tone lean muscle tissue, and allow you to get rid of that extra weight in the fastest way possible!

Paleo Diet for Athletes

,
Paleo Breakfast:

Athletes looking for a way to maximize their training results may have heard of the Paleo Diet for Athletes. While misunderstanding abounds, the Paleo Diet is founded on the type of foods our hunter-gatherer ancestors lived on many thousands of years ago. With a few modern tweaks, the Paleo Diet for Athletes can provide a competitive edge, allowing for greater muscle build-up with decreased recovery times and thus increased performance. Scientific studies continue to demonstrate its safety and efficacy.

Paleo Diet for Athletes

Paleo Diet Philosophy

At its heart, the diet's philosophy is very simple: consume the types of foods that the human body evolved to consume. In the words of the diet's creator, "the optimal diet for the athlete is the same one that we as Homo sapiens have thrived on for nearly all of our existence on the planet - a Paleolithic, or Old Stone Age, diet, albeit one slightly modified to meet the unique demands of athletes". The Paleo Diet follows a low-carbohydrate, high-protein plan, but for athletes, it also takes into account the need for glycogen restoration after exercise. While similar to some other diets, "the greatest differences of what we propose here may be found in the timing of carbohydrate and protein ingestion, especially branched-chain amino acids; selecting foods based on glycemic load at certain times relative to training; the base-enhancing effects of our diet on blood and other body fluids; and periodization of diet in parallel with training". In this way, the diet is organized to best benefit training and cut down on recovery.

Athletes should be clear that this diet is very different from the traditional high-carbohydrate diets espoused by most trainers. In fact, athletes will need to forego most all carbohydrates since "grains, like dairy products and refined sugars, were not part of the native human diet". The diet is founded on consumption of "healthful fruits, veggies, lean meats, and seafood". Dietary strategies are intended to increase performance and for overall health; this is not a weight-loss diet, despite that followers do lose fat and gain muscle.

Paleo's Competitive Edge

The Paleo Diet for Athletes offers a competitive edge to those who follow it. The diet evolved through training needs thus maximizes athletic performance. Researchers "found this way of eating to be 'ergogenic,' a term exercise physiologists use to describe nutritional supplements that can enhance athletic performance". It "is high in animal protein, which is the richest source of the branched-chain amino acids - valine, leucine, and isoleucine...potent stimulants for building and repairing muscle". It provides the building blocks for muscle growth and repair, essential to any serious athlete.

It offers several other benefits. The diet "prevents muscle protein breakdown because it produces a net metabolic alkalosis." The foods commonly eaten by Americans are acidic. To neutralize an acidic diet, the body breaks down muscle tissue, obviously bad for athletes wanting to build up muscle stores. Since the Paleo diet is net-alkaline, the body has no need to break down muscle tissue. In addition, the diet also protects health. All the fruits and vegetables provide a rich array of vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, which promote immune-system function. Indeed, researchers have found that "the frequency and duration of colds, flu, and upper respiratory illnesses are reduced when athletes adopt the Paleo diet". Athletes build muscle faster, don't break it down, and bolster their immune systems at the same time - all good things for performance.

Diet Regimen

The key to the Paleo Diet regimen is its tailoring to the athlete's training schedule. In "recognition that consumption of starches and simple sugars was necessary and useful only during exercise and in the immediate postexercise period," it allows athletes to ingest certain carbohydrates only when it best suits them for training, in the pre- and post-exercise windows. At all other times, "eat as much lean meat, poultry, seafood, fresh fruit, and veggies as you like". Thus, the diet is high in protein, but because of the preference for lean proteins, saturated fat consumption is lower than some may expect. The Paleo Diet is not the high-fat Atkins diet; it preferences the "good" fats such as omega-3 fatty acids, which lower cholesterol and protect health.

Foods barred from the diet include "cereal grains, dairy products, high-glycemic fruits and vegetables, legumes, alcohol, salty foods, fatty meats, refined sugars, and nearly all processed foods". Instead, athletes eat low-glycemic fruits and vegetables, which provide the vitamins and minerals that are so helpful for those lost during exercise. But in recognition of depleted glycogen stores, "Immediately before, during, and after a workout or competition, certain non-Paleo foods should be eaten to promote a quick recovery".

Example Daily Menu - 2200 Calories

Breakfast:
Cantaloupe - 276g
Broiled Atlantic salmon - 333g

Lunch:
Walnut-Vegetable Salad
Romaine lettuce - 68g
Carrot - 61g

Broiled lean pork loin - 86g

Dinner:
Veggie and avocado-almond salad
Mixed greens - 112g
Tomato - 123g
Avocado - 85g
Almonds - 45g
Red onion - 29g

Lean beef sirloin tip roast - 235g

Dessert:
Strawberries - 130g

Snacks:
Orange - 66g
Carrot sticks - 81g

Timing of Eating for Athletic Events

Eat at least two hours before exercise, consuming 200 to 300 calories per hour prior to the start of the event (so 400 to 600 calories if two hours before or 600 to 900 calories if three hours before). These should be low- to moderate-glycemic-index carbohydrates that are also low in fiber. If exercise lasts less than an hour, no carbohydrates are needed during the event. If lasting for more than an hour, athletes should consume high-glycemic-index carbohydrates during the event, in the form of sports drinks.

Within thirty minutes of completing a competitive event or long/intense exercise period, athletes need to consume both protein and carbohydrates in a 45:1 ratio. Commercial protein shakes are an easy choice, but homemade ones work just as well, so long as they're consumed within thirty minutes. For the post-exercise period, up to the amount of time spent exercising, athletes should continue to eat moderate- or high-glycemic-index carbohydrates along with protein, at a ratio of 45:1. During this time, athletes may eat non-Paleo foods like bread, pasta, or other glucose-rich foods. After this stage, athletes should return to eating according to the Paleo Diet - lean proteins and low-glycemic fruits and vegetables.

Paleo in the Long-term

The Paleo Diet has been helping athletes improve performance for more than ten years. It's heavily based on science and proven effective in the real world of athletics, yet many still balk at the notion of eating as our ancestors did. Studies of remote populations, of people who follow much the same diet as Paleo advocates, reveal some sobering information. For example, "despite diets rich in animal foods, these people have healthful blood cholesterol levels that leave the average Westerner in the dust". High blood pressure is rare, as is obesity. These populations don't have many diseases of the Western world. That current scientific data is confirmed by historical accounts written when Westerners came into contact with hunter-gatherer societies.

Recent medical studies bear out the effectiveness and safety of low-carbohydrate diets. Studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine have demonstrated that low-carbohydrate diets cause lower cholesterol, improved glycemic control, improved insulin sensitivity, improved triglyceride levels, as well as better weight loss when compared to other diets. These studies, conducted over years, also dispel the persistent myth that low-carbohydrate diets are deleterious to health. All of this data shows that the Paleo Diet for Athletes is the best way to bring diet in line with training goals to achieve optimal results.

Celebrating Central Newfoundland

,
Paleo Breakfast:

Central Newfoundland in eastern Canada is attracting more tourists every year. This picturesque region with its birch, spruce, and pine trees is a unique spot. As well, visitors are entranced with the winding roads of the north-eastern Kittiwake Coast and its quaint fishing villages. The Kittiwake Coast is known as a perfect place to watch breaching whales and majestic icebergs. The surrounding waters are home to 22 species of whales and six types of icebergs.

Celebrating Central Newfoundland

Terra Nova National Park is a Central Newfoundland treasure. Within this park, families can vacation in a natural paradise. They can camp by the Atlantic coastline or the lush forest. If camping is not your style, the area has excellent Newfoundland hotels and island cottages.

Tourists can go bird watching or enjoy leisurely hikes. There are 55 marked trails in Central Newfoundland. Hikers are always impressed with the region's scenic trails including the Alexander Murray Trial in King's Point.

The area's archaeological sites and impressive museums always attract attention. Visitors can tour the Dorset Soapstone Quarry Site where an earlier people, the Dorset Paleo Eskimo, made oil lamps and cooking pots. An on-site museum holds 1200-5000 year-old artifacts belonging to early aboriginal groups.

The Mary March Museum in Grand Falls-Windsor remembers Mary March, one of the last Beothuks (early inhabitants of the region). In addition, this museum also celebrates aboriginal culture and local history. At Boyd's Cove, a community in Notre Dame Bay, tourists can explore two Beothuk sites.

The largest one is above a glacial moraine consisting of debris remaining from the presence of glaciers. Outlines of Beothuk houses are even visible at this location. Boyd's Cove has an interesting Beothuk Interpretative Centre which displays artifacts from the site.

The North Atlantic Museum is located in the town of Gander known as "The Crossroads of the World." This museum honors Gander's aviation history. Aircraft lovers are enthralled by the collection of vintage air planes. The Lockheed Hudson Bomber is the star of the show.

Although Gander has a lengthy aviation history, no event in its past can compare to the happenings in town on September 11, 2001. On the day of the tragic attack in New York City, several airplanes were diverted to Gander. The town made news worldwide but not just for the airplane landings.

Gander gained international respect for the manner in which its residents went above and beyond normal efforts to make stranded passengers feel at home. Since that time, numerous passengers who were stranded on that horrific day have returned to visit Gander and the people who came to their aid at a difficult time. From a tragedy, people have discovered gentle people and a friendly town as well as the beauty of the surrounding areas in Central Newfoundland.

Visitors to this splendid region can choose from several types of comfortable and affordable accommodations. Tourists can stay in Newfoundland hotels and motels, charming bed and breakfasts, and Newfoundland inns, as well as rustic cabins. Come celebrate with us in Central Newfoundland.

Forego Dieting And Choose A Healthy, Sustainable Weight Maintenance Diet Instead

,
Paleo Breakfast:

Are you dieting? In today's vernacular, dieting has come to mean trying to lose weight. Yet Diet is the food and beverages you consume, and can lead to weight loss (Paleo Diet, South Beach Diet, etc.), weight gain (bodybuilding diet, etc), or weight maintenance (any healthy diet).

Forego Dieting And Choose A Healthy, Sustainable Weight Maintenance Diet Instead

While it might seem like it's all just playing with semantics, there really is a big difference between the two. If you're dieting to lose weight, you're probably making a mistake - most dieters find themselves trapped in the 'yo-yo diet' syndrome, forever losing a few pounds then gaining them back over and over again, often with the result of their weight slowly increasing overall.

Most diets start you off heavily restricting calories and drinking a lot of water. Restricting your caloric intake heavily only works for a very short time - usually your body will slow down its metabolism (the rate it uses energy at) by the end of the first week to compensate for the reduced intake. You may lose a pound or two of true bodyweight, but most of the loss will be from the increased water intake.

You body is truly efficient in its operations, and water is the single most important part of your nutritional intake. People can go up to about 30 days without food, but your system would shut down without water for 6 or 7 days. As a result, your body stores water based on need and available supply. When you drink more water regularly, your body doesn't see the need to store as much of it, so it releases more of its water stores. Since you've increased your water consumption while dieting, your body is lighter more from carrying less water than from burning body fat.

And what happens when you've reached your weight target and end your diet? You go back to your 'normal' number of calories, but now your metabolism is slower so you're actually creating a bigger caloric surplus than before you started dieting. Unless and until your metabolism catches back up, that excess will be stored as body fat as insurance against the next caloric deficit. And it's the same with water - if you start drinking less, your body will go back to storing more of it.

Net result? In short order your weight has gone back up surpassing your starting weight, and you're facing another weight loss diet. Not really what you were hoping for, was it? It's time to break that cycle and get to and maintain your healthy bodyweight.

To start, evaluate your current eating habits and make any necessary changes. You should be eating 3 meals a day, each with a mix of fibrous carbohydrates, quality protein and some healthy fats. Replace white bread with whole wheat, including any buns, etc. Be sure to have a good breakfast - not sugar-laden cereal, salt-laden instant oatmeal or toast & coffee. Instead go for bacon & eggs, oatmeal & eggs or a grapefruit & a protein shake, for example.

Lunch should be tuna, salmon or a small portion of lean red meat, with a side of roasted or steamed vegetables or a salad - but skip the useless calories of the thicker dressings and opt for either oil & vinegar or just a drizzle of olive oil. Supper should be fish, chicken or lean red meat and green vegetables or beans. For best results, fill half the plate with steamed green vegetables.

If you find you need a snack mid-afternoon or after dinner, choose fruit, unsalted peanuts or walnuts. Just remember that while healthy, each has calories so limit the amount you allow yourself. If you're still peckish an hour before bedtime, treat yourself to a cup of cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is high in the phosphoprotein casein, a slow digesting protein that not only helps to curb your hunger but keeps the body burning more calories while you sleep as it your body digests it.

Check your weight about once a week to see if you're headed towards your weight loss goals. It's always best to check first thing in the morning upon rising, before getting dressed. Your weight fluctuates by a few pounds throughout the day, so best to always check it at the same time of day, and doing it first thing helps to eliminate fluctuations based on that day's food intake.

If you're making progress, just keep doing what you're doing - don't make any changes to try & hurry the process. Let your body adapt and continue at it's own preferred rate. On the other hand, if you're not yet losing, try either reducing the calories slightly at each meal, or replace a bit of the carbohydrate portion with additional protein.

Once you're at your target weight, keep monitoring yourself for another few weeks. If your body is still dropping weight, up your portions slightly until you reach a maintenance level. Now when you reach the weight you want to stay at it's easy to maintain, since you're already eating right to maintain that weight - no further changes are necessary as you're now living a more fit lifestyle and eating a healthy diet. And should you slip up the odd time, increasing your exercise level, even going for a couple of walks a day, can usually help to cover up your caloric indiscretions!

The Caveman Paleolithic Diet - How to Get Healthier

,
Paleo Breakfast:

From various media, we have been told that we should build our diet from carbohydrate-rich foods, cereals, wholemeal bread and pasta. Those foods are the backbone of a healthy food.

The Caveman Paleolithic Diet - How to Get Healthier

But it belongs to the point that we do not need any starchy foods. We need no extra supply of carbohydrates.

There is no one who has died because of too few carbohydrates, but there are many who have gone now because of too little fat or protein.

It is therefore quite useless to bring the body carbohydrates, the body can cope with, but we do not need.

We need fat and protein

The liver is the body can produce glucose in the body and it uses the fat and protein for this. The liver can manufacture about four cups of sugar and it is enough to meet the tissues that need it.

You can actually get by without eating a single iota of sugar or starch, but you have to have enough protein and fat.

Caveman diet

This did our ancestors in many hundreds of thousands of years. They lived by hunting and fishing and took advantage of the nuts, berries and fruit that they found. But they never ate, breakfast cereals, bread, pasta, potatoes or any other sugary foods.

Now this does not mean that you forever must avoid anything with sugar in it but when you have regained your position as a healthy man that is good values in terms of sugar in the body, so you can vary the diet a bit without body damage.

From and to help you eat more starchy foods. But it must not be staple food in your life, for when you return to the old habit and becomes round and tired etc....

The Solution

The solution is easy to give your body the nutrients it needs and then let it take care of their health improvement on their own.

Digestion is needed to break down all aspects of food into a liquid that the body can benefit from. When starch is broken down to glucose, there is a risk that blood sugar rises. If you eat a potato, it is comparable to eating half cup of sugar!

The same is true if you eat bread, waffles, cookies, pasta and rice. Carbohydrates get the body to affect insulin production and it will be a rush of insulin factory to decompose carbohydrates.

So it is a good idea to avoid these foods to return to better health and perhaps a reduced weight, allowing you to do more and find life on the bright side...

Primal Post Workout Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

,
Paleo Breakfast:

I enjoyed a Primal Protein Blueberry Coconut Smoothie just a few minutes after a lift strength training workout. I will share the recipe with you below.

Primal Post Workout Blueberry Breakfast Smoothie Recipe

It only gave me 300 calories which was not enough but I didn't want a full meal since I knew I was going to eat at a local restaurant for brunch. There, I had a nourishing and delicious omelet along with a few non primal things that I will share in tomorrow's post!

This recipe is simple, yet tasty. The smoothie was fluffy due to the whey protein and not much else, however, if you add some crushed ice it should be less fluffy and smoother. Enjoy!

Primal Protein Blueberry Coconut Smoothie Recipe

  • 1.5 Scoops Whey Protein Powder
  • 1 C Frozen Blueberries (I used exactly 4.6 oz)
  • 2 Tbsp Shredded Coconut
  • 2 Drops Stevia
  • 4 oz Water
  • Add ice if you desire or have unfrozen blueberries

I personally prefer Now Foods brand of Whey protein powder. When you buy on Amazon in bulk you get a fantastic deal. Due to the fact that I live in Michigan, I picked blueberries from a local farm last summer. Several pounds worth of blueberries are still stored in the freezer from last year. If you have fresh blueberries then add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of ice or as desired to decrease the temperature.

The 2 drops of stevia added a little sweetness. The powder version of stevia is a lot better but a couple of liquid drops will do.

Quick Nutrition Breakdown

  • 297 Calories
  • 38.8 g Protein, 20 g Carbs (5 from fiber)
  • Trace amounts of some vitamins and minerals

At less than 300 calories, this smoothie is perfect as a snack or as a "side dish" in a larger meal. It is a decent dose of protein. Three jumbo eggs cooked in coconut oil, butter or lard would be a great complimentary food to this smoothie. Eggs are one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet as well as one of the cheapest.

If you do enjoy this smoothie with eggs then be sure to eat the entire egg. The yolk is the most nutritious part of the egg and the cholesterol content has zero effect on your risk for heart disease.

Cost Breakdown - .43

  • Whey Protein from Amazon - 90 cents
  • Shredded Coconut from Amazon - 7 cents
  • I-Pick Blueberries from Local Farm - 46 cents

This meal is not cheap but is not expensive either. If you double the recipe than most people have a full meal for under .

A High Protein Diet Plan For Healthy Weight Loss

,
Paleo Breakfast:

High protein diet plans have always been popular with athletes and are now increasing in popularity among regular dieters.

A High Protein Diet Plan For Healthy Weight Loss

While normal people who do not exercise can eat moderately high amounts of protein foods, athletes and people on muscle building diets should eat at least 1 gram per lb of bodyweight in order to build muscle. A high protein diet plan is followed by bodybuilders. Bodybuilding athletes always include a high protein food source in their daily diet.

Whether you need to lose weight or want to build muscle, a diet plan with plenty of protein will help you achieve your goal. Consuming high amounts of protein and low amounts of carbohydrate allow for a slow burning of energy and maintain stable blood sugar levels. This maintains a healthy pancreas and assists in maintaining healthy weight. Whereas diets high in carbohydrates have been linked to obesity, low-carb, diets with plenty of protein have been found to support weight loss.

Protein is the fuel for muscle building. During weightlifting and intensive training, muscle tissue breaks down. In order to rebuild that tissue we need to be on a high protein diet plan. If your goal is fat loss, a high protein diet is also very important. Most high protein diets are also low in carbohydrates and saturated fats. To accelerate weight loss, you need to reduce carbohydrates and lower the calorie intake. A high protein diet plan can help you to do this. The total amount of protein consumed should be spread over 5 to 6 meals throughout the course of a day.

The times of day you eat protein foods is important. Eat protein foods at breakfast, before a work out and for your evening meal. A good higher protein diet plan will include a good, breakfast high in protein. Immediately after a work out drink a protein shake or drink to assist with quick muscle repair. A protein meal (slow digesting form of protein) before bed, might seem strange but it provides a slow release of high quality amino acids while you sleep.
